Vader: De profundis
03/03/10 || InquisitorGeneralis
The following except is from Winston Churchill’s famous “Iron Curtain” speech given at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri on 5 March, 1946. I find the words of that aging imperialist to be early prophetic for us in the metal community.
/ Metal Historian and Bromancing Soulbrother Number One, IGesus
From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an iron curtain has descended across the continent. Behind that line lie all the capitals of the ancient states of Central and Eastern Europe. Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Bucharest and Sofia; all these famous cities and the populations around them lie in what I must call the Soviet sphere, and all are subject, in one form or another, not only to Soviet influence but to a very high and in some cases increasing measure of control from Moscow.
However, I see a power that will outlive the Marxist regime in Moscow. A hammer that will overcome death, change, and social upheaval and become a dominating entity in the world of heavy metal… a genre of music not even invented yet. That is magnitude of the musical force that will break down this curtain of iron and unite anti-social, disillusioned satanists the world over. Mighty Poland has seen it’s share of conquering forces over the years, and it’s vengeance shall be called Vader. Just as it took Rome two tries to defeat mighty Carthage, on Vader’s second release “De Profundis” they shall achieve death metal glory forever.
Forget the red specter of communism! “The blood of Kingu” will cover the western world in perfect crimson mid-paced death metal glory. If the forces of the east and west commence to destroying the earth in a third world war, society will be “Reborn in flames”… and completely awesome breakdowns. Only Vader shall remain amidst the ashes of our once great cities. The masses will cry “Sothis!” when they want a perfect metal introduction. Piotr will lead them, Doc will pound them with drumming perfection. Floodhorse will cream his slacks. Piotr will unleash dominating riff after dominating riff. Vader will have its best album by its best lineup, even with another 15 years of quality output in its future after “De Profundis”.
A “Litany” may call to you. “Revelations” may enlighten you. A world on the brink of nuclear war may go “Black to the Blind”, but “De Profundis” will stand above them all. It shall be Vader’s masterwork in style, production, and quality. Heed my words young Yankees, the day is coming where extreme death metal is coming to your shores just when you think the Evil Empire is defeated. You will give up, you will surrender to the blasty but groovy, thrash influenced death metal that Vader will perfect on “De Profundis”.
